In the News

“After 28 years, it’s time for a change.  Virginians are overtaxed, stuck in traffic and poorly represented.

Bill Howell will have to explain how three giant tax hikes and doubling Virginia’s budget is conservative leadership.”

Cutting Taxes

Year after year, Democrats and Republicans in the General Assembly raise taxes and fees on Virginia families and small businesses. Instead of prioritizing spending, Richmond politicians just raise taxes. After campaigning on lower taxes, Republican leaders broke their promises and used huge Republican majorities in the House of Delegates to raise our taxes in 2004, 2007 and 2013. Liberal Democrats raise taxes, not Republicans. It’s time for Republican leaders in the General Assembly that recognize that we have a spending problem, not a revenue problem. It’s time for leaders who understand that times are tough, and families and small businesses simply don’t have more to give. As your Delegate, Susan Stimpson will oppose all tax hikes, protect taxpayers and ensure tax dollars are spent wisely so Virginians can keep more of their hard earned money.

Cutting Spending and Making Government Efficient

Since 2001, spending has more than doubled in Virginia. On Bill Howell’s watch, Virginia’s budget has exploded from $42 billion in 2001 to $95 billion in 2014. That’s not the fiscally responsible leadership we’ve been promised. Democrats and Republicans in the General Assembly are simply unwilling to cut spending and incapable of prioritizing how our tax dollars are spent. For example, the 2004, 2007 and 2013 tax hikes were passed by a Republican House of Delegates with the promise they would solve Virginia’s transportation woes. Each time, the money was squandered on pet projects, corporate giveaways and bigger government, not transportation. As your Delegate, Susan Stimpson will cut the budget and return money to the taxpayers. And Susan will prioritize state spending where it belongs, on transportation, education funding with accountability and public safety.

Defeating Obamacare's Medicaid Expansion

Virginia’s budget has doubled since 2001, and Obamacare’s Medicaid Expansion would deal Virginia’s budget a crushing blow. Unfortunately, Governor McAuliffe, as well as Democrats and some Republicans in the General Assembly are shortsighted, seeking to mortgage Virginia’s future by accepting federal funds through Medicaid Expansion that will leave taxpayers on the hook over the long haul for an inefficient, ineffective program. Despite this reality, Democrats and many Republican leaders continue to press forward with Obamacare expansion. As your Delegate, Susan Stimpson will continue to protect taxpayers and fight any Obamacare expansion scheme. Susan supports a free market approach to help those truly in need without jeopardizing school budgets, public safety, transportation and health care for millions of other Virginians.

Improving Transportation

For too long, Democrats and Republicans in the General Assembly have played games with transportation, raising our taxes in the name of fixing our roads only to divert the money to boondoggles like rail, pet projects and non-transportation purposes entirely. As your Delegate, Susan Stimpson will fight to improve Northern Virginia’s roads to get families out of traffic and keep our economy growing. Susan Stimpson will fight to prioritize projects to relieve congestion and stop Richmond politicians from diverting funds designated for transportation to other projects.

Improving Education

Quality K-12 education and a strong public university system are critical to Virginia’s economic future. Spending has increased dramatically in recent years, but results haven’t. As your Delegate, Susan Stimpson will fight to ensure tax dollars make it to the classroom instead of being wasted on administration. She will fight for performance based pay for teachers and stand up to teachers’ union bosses. In addition, Susan will work to expand school choice and look out for home schoolers to ensure all Virginia parents have the ability to ensure their children receive a quality education.

“On the Stafford County Board of Supervisors, I fought to improve the quality of life for families by cutting taxes and spending while prioritizing roads, schools and public safety.

I’ll do the same as your Delegate.”
